Trail Riding
Clinic & campout
- Do you feel out of balance or lack communication with your horse?
- Does your horse rush up or down slopes?
- Does he or she do more sight seeing on the trail than you?
- Is he or she more worried about the other equines than about you?
- Would you like to learn how to navigate trail obstacles and gates safely?
Then this is the clinic for you and your horse!
Attend a 3 day clinic with a Nationally recognized competitive trail rider. Spend 2 nights camping in the incredible Jackson State Forest with your horse. All 3 days you will be treated to good food, great company and wonderful trails. All in a relaxed learning environment. All meals are provided by the ranch.
You will get to review the basics and practice them, then you'll ride with us on the trails. Each participant gets lots of individual attention and help with specific problems they're having with their horse. This clinic is designed to assist you in becoming a more comfortable and balanced rider for the benefit of both you and your horse. We teach a balanced seat, which enables clinic participants to improve their skill in trail riding.
Among other issues you will learn to:
- Communicate effectively with your horse from the ground: improve your horse's halter manners.
- Evaluate your balance and position and how you influence the horse's movement
- Use basic Dressage movements to aid you and your horse on the trail
- Teach your horse speed control; fast walk, slow walk and rating their speed at the trot.
- Keep your horse in a proper place in relation to others on the trail.
- Navigate gates and other obstacles safely
- Practice or learn trailer loading skills
On the first day we'll head out to Jackson State forest to put your new skills to work on the trail as well as giving you tips on how to handle obstacles and other trial issues. We will spend two nights there camping in the beautiful redwoods where we will cover safe camping with your horse and potential health problems to watch for.
On the second day we'll resume trail training with our small group seeing more incredible scenery and continue to practice our horsemanship skills as they relate to trail riding.
On the third day, we'll get in a few more hours of riding and then head back to the ranch in the early afternoon so participants can get headed home before dark.
This clinic is limited to 6 riders so we can give everyone individual attention. The cost for the clinic including meals is $300. A shorter 2 day package can be purchased for $250.
Clinic Dates:
- June 8th to 10th
- July 13th to 15th
Participants will need to provide their own living accommodations (camper, tent etc). If you don't have such, let us know and we'll make arrangements. All food is included in the cost of the clinic.
We have horses available for those who wish to participate but don't have a horse.
